Every Windows user must have noticed that the default drive always has the name “C”. There are many things which are usually ignored, and the question on naming of default drive as “C’ in Windows is one of them. If we follow a logical order then “A” should be the name then why “C”.

 The answer is here…

Hard disk drives turned into standard storage in 1980. Earlier hard disk drives, Floppy disk drives were used as the storage devices. Floppy disk drives were the first storage devices. They came to existence since 1960’s. Floppy disks were available in two sizes 5 1/4 ” and 3 1/2″. Those two floppy disk drives were labelled as Local Disk (A) and Local Disk (B). After the innovation of Hard disk, the hard disk was given the name “C”.

After a long time floppy disk disappeared and so the letters “A” and “B”. And like this “C” came into existence.
Still “C” drive is available as the standard, you can change it to A or B if you’ve got the administrative rights.
