THIS MALWARE IS SPREADING THROUGH FACEBOOK MESSENGER.

Hello And Welcome To Indian Tech Gamer.

When it comes to social media platform we all have a common choice and that is Facebook. Using Facebook we can easily connect to our family and friends. In just clicks, we get connected to thousands of people across the world which is a good idea. But the downside of this is we also get connected to people whom we don’t need to connect.

Recently researchers at Kaspersky Lab have discovered a virus that is spreading via Facebook Messenger. This malware is a multi platform malware, using tons of domains to prevent tracking and earning clicks. This malware is spreading via Messenger, however, the actual mechanism of spreading is still unknown but the research is ongoing. As the malware is spreading via messenger we can conclude that it is social engineering.

The message contains a link that points to a google doc. The document has already taken a picture from the victim’s Facebook page and created a dynamic landing page which looks like a playable movie.

When the victim clicks on the fake playable movie, the malware redirects them to a set of websites which manipulate their browser, operating system, and other vital information. Depending on their operating system they are directed to other websites.

The virus is different from other as it redirects you to different pages, For example, if you’ll use Firefox, you’ll be taken to a page displaying Fake Flash update notice and different Windows executables, which are basically adware. In case of Chrome, you’ll be taken to a fake YouTube page with a popup for downloading a malicious extension.

By doing this, it basically moves your browser through a set of websites and, using tracking cookies, monitors your activity, displays certain ads for you and even, in some cases, social engineers you to click on links.

We all know that clicking on unknown links is not something that’s recommended, but through this technique, they can basically force you to do so.
